Lamb

We raise naturally grown Katahdin lambs and we market premium quality naturally grown lamb  to our customers. We offer only lambs from our own flocks to our customers. Our production  ewes produce a lamb with the much sought after by higher end country clubs and white table restaurants. Our ewes give birth in the March/April time frame. The resulting lambs are grown on the lush grasses until they are weaned. After weaning the lambs are grazed on the highest quality pasture available. We use no growth hormones or antibiotics. If suitable pasture is not available to meet their nutritional needs, the lambs feed on locally grown hay and high quality feed.

Our ewe lambs with good characteristics for breeding stock are available to those interested in started or agumenting their own sheep flock.  Ram lambs with good characteristics are also available for sale.   These lambs are all registered or recorded with the Katahdin Hair Sheep Association.  Prices vary depending upon market conditions but are generally in the $200 to $400 price range.

We offer our naturally grown processed lambs different ways.  We offer whole or half lambs cut, trimmed and vacuum packed.  We also offer live lambs delivered to the customer's own choice of location or processor.  We can also sell specific cuts of processed lamb.  Just contact us for current pricing of individual cuts or check the Church View Farm Blog for any current specials.

Many of our customers are extremely concerned about where their food comes from, the quality and healthfullness of the food, and how it is produced. You may call us or email us to help answer any of your questions. Since we sell only our own lamb, we sell out every year. Spring and early summer born lambs and  are available beginning around June 1 for lightweights, and continuing into the fall and winter for heavier weights. Please reserve your lambs early so you will not be disapppointed. You may reserve as many animals as you like for a deposit of $100.00 each.

Buying lamb is very different from buying beef or pork.  Many lambs are bought by people that have extensive experience with live lambs.  Carcass yield can vary.   What you are buying is a live lamb from us. Then you are paying for the processing for whatever level of packing and processing you may desire.  You have the option of cutting and trimming your own lamb if you so desire.   Processing can be estimated at about $1.50 per pound.  But if you have no experience selecting or evaluating a live animal you should buy a processed whole or side or just individual cuts.

For Processed Lamb:  Price per Pound Whole Live Weight

40 to 50 pounds   $5.00
51 to 69 pounds   $4.00
70 to 90 pounds   $3.00
91 to 120 pounds $2.50

The live weight price per pound is for a processed, vacuum packed or  paper wrapped lamb, ready for you to pick up.. For an additional charge, we can deliver to those customers who are unable to pick up their lamb. You may purchase a half lamb in the 70 pound or larger lambs. Half lambs are an extra $.50 per pound live weight.  A $100.00 deposit is required to reserve or purchase a lamb. If you want a traditional fed lamb weighing somewhere around 120 pounds, please reserve the number of lambs desired and the approximate date wanted. We sell most lambs at lighter weights and would rather not disappoint you with no availability. If you prefer, we will deliver lambs to the processer of your choice for a transport fee.

Simply contact us if you have any questions.  The bottom line is that you can indeed save money by doing all or some of the processing  yourself.  The most exensive purchase is a processed individual cut of lamb, but even then your cost will be equivalent in price to a higher end grocery store purchase of lamb roast, lamb rack or lamb chops.
